Central Romana Corporation signs agreement to provide private health insurance to all of its agricultural workers

Central Romana announced the signing of an agreement with the health administrator ARS Abel González, becoming pioneers in providing private insurance coverage at no cost for its agricultural workers who are not registered under the social security system, in addition to all the health services that are already provided by the company.

This medical insurance, which entails an investment of more than RD$60 million pesos per year for the Central Romana, will cover 100% of the worker’s emergency medical services, surgery room, medical fees and anesthesia, room per day, medicines and hospitalization material, kidney transplant cases, dental plan, among other additional compensations such as funeral expenses and life insurance.

The agreement was signed by Eduardo Martínez-Lima Jr., Vice President of Administration of Central Romana, and Dr. José Abel González Frómeta, Vice President of the Board of Directors of ARS Abel González.

“Central Romana’s commitment to its employees has always been oriented towards the well-being of the worker as part of its labor benefits, especially in the aspect of health that we reaffirm today with this agreement,” said engineer Martínez-Lima Jr.

For his part, Dr. González Frómeta highlighted his satisfaction in continuing a relationship that for decades has covered the medical needs of the employees of Central Romana who contribute so much to the development of the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic. “Our goal is to serve, and that the workers feel the support and experience of the ARS Abel González, always focused on prevention and health of Dominicans,” he added.

Central Romana assured that this medical coverage plan is a complement to the health programs that the company always has available to all its workers, including a modern hospital in La Romana, two Subcenters strategically located in the agricultural areas of Lechugas and Baiguá for free primary care, four Mobile Medical Units that travel daily to the sugarcane communities offering consultations and medicines at no cost.

In addition to these social plans, the company also continues to advance in the transformation of its agricultural processes, providing new job opportunities for its field workers as operators of tractors, loaders and harvesters in the training for mechanization of sugarcane cutting.
