Central Romana invested RD$2,500 million pesos installing electrostatic precipitators
La Romana. -The Central Romana mill has managed to reduce by more than 90% the emission of solid particles into the atmosphere with the installation of electrostatic precipitators in their boiler system during the industrial process for the production of sugar cane.
The company invested more than two thousand five hundred million pesos in a period of three years, and with these measures they are giving a firm step of advance in its commitment to protect the environment, according to the laws established by the Dominican government.
Central Romana is the only sugar mill in the country with the largest number of electrostatic precipitators installed and in continuous operation.
“This important investment made by the company seeks to reduce the environmental impact that can exist in any industrial process, and at the same time is a significant technical progress achieved by our plant engineers” as it was communicated by press release.
Since the harvest corresponding to the period 2016-2017 started, a total of three electrostatic precipitators entered in operation . Its purpose is to filter more efficiently all the tiny particles through a process of ionization that reduces significantly the pollution of the air.
The company also reported that during the month of March it will be audited by a fourth year consecutive in its agricultural process under the Pro-Terra standard, that seeks an evaluation in all its chain of supplies from the planting of cane until the final stage of production of sugar.
This audit is issued by CERT-ID, a worldwide organization that provides companies with the transparency to inform its consumers on the process of manufacturing their food products, among other sustainability actions.
