UN SIGLO DE HISTORIA CENTRAL ROMANA CORPORATIONFue también pionera en la utilización de la inseminación artificial en el país, a través de la cual se ha desarrollado el mestizaje de razas de carne de origen europeo, como el charolais, el simmental y varias otras.Fue incluso el Central Romana la primera empresa que utilizó en la República Dominicana el procedimiento de que médicos veterinarios visitaran el país regularmente con fines de control del ganado, puesto que en las primeras décadas de operación de la empresa, no existía esa especialidad en la República Dominicana.El Central Romana llegó a tener más de 60,000 cabezas, pero en 1979 donó al Estado Dominicano sus mejores tierras ganaderas para ser usadas en programas agrícolas del Instituto Agrario Dominicano, con lo que mermó su capacidad de producción. Actualmente cuenta con más de 55,000 cabezas de ganado de excelente calidad.Con esta gran producción, el Central Romana se constituye en el principal suplidor de carne de res del mercado nacional, con lo que contribuye significativamente a la ingesta de proteína del pueblo dominicano.Central Romana also pioneered the use of artificial insemination in the country, and through its use crossbreeds of cattle of European origin have been developed, such as Charolais, Simmental and several others.Since during the first decades of the company’s operations this specialty did not exist in the Dominican Republic, Central Romana was the first company to have veterinarians visit the country on a regular basis for the sole purpose of controlling and overseeing the livestock.Central Romana ultimately had more than 60,000 heads of cattle, but in 1979, the company donated its best pasture land to the Dominican Government for agricultural programs to be developed by the Instituto Agrario Dominicano (Dominican Agrarian Institute), thus reducing its production capacity. Today it owns more than 55,000 heads of cattle of excellent quality.This large inventory of livestock makes Central Romana one of the largest supplier of beef to the national market and one of the major contributors of the dietary protein intake of the Dominican people.76
