Asimismo, la empresa trajo técnicos especializados de los Estados Unidos para entrenar al personal criollo en los cortes especiales de ese país, que tienen gran demanda entre los turistas.Dado que la República Dominicana no cuenta con suficientes granos para suplir los “feedlot”, y con el propósito de producir alimentos de bajo costo y alto rendimiento, la empresa, en el marco de este programa, desarrolló su propio proceso alimenticio, a base de pequeños trozos de caña de azúcar, mezclados con melaza, úrea y gallináceas, con lo cual nutría a unas 6,000 cabezas anuales. Esta técnica es usada ampliamente por los ganaderos del país.Los aportes del Central Romana a la pecuaria nacional, a través de su Departamento de Ganadería, tienen un alcance mucho mayor que los descritos. Habría también que señalar que esta empresa fue la que introdujo, por primera vez en el país, el baño de inmersión para control de la garrapata y otros parásitos, que ha sido fundamental para la sanidad del ganado dominicano.También fue la que trajo al país, mediante importación, nuevas variedades de pastos de alto rendimiento, como la pangola y la estrella africana, que han tenido una gran difusión nacional a través de los años, hasta el punto de que más del 30% del ganado dominicano se alimenta hoy día con estos forrajes.Otro aporte fue la introducción, también por primera vez en el país, de la modalidad de siembra de postes vivos para el cercado de propiedades, lo que se ha generalizado ampliamente en el territorio dominicano para gran beneficio de la foresta nacional.Hence the production program based on the fattening system “feedlot” emerged. For example, this company was the first to introduce to the country, the immersion baths for controlling ticks and other parasites, which has been fundamental to the health of Dominican livestock.Central Romana also introduced to the country, through importation, new varieties of high yield grasses, such as Pangola and African Star, which through the years have been widely distributed throughout the country, to the point that today, more than 30% of livestock is fed with this fodder.Another contribution was the introduction, also for the first time in the country, of the use of planting live stakes for fencing in properties, a practice which has been widely adopted throughout the island and which has in turn greatly benefited the national forestry.74
