Sugar and Agriculture

Sugar and agriculture form the foundation of Central Romana’s operations. The company cultivates, harvests, and transports sugarcane, supported by agricultural research, mechanization, and an extensive railway network. Through its Department of Agricultural Research, Central Romana has developed more than 15 commercial sugarcane varieties, with the majority of its fields planted with varieties developed by the company. Its agricultural activities also include livestock operations involving cattle, horses, and dairy buffalo, as well as the production of beef and dairy products for the Dominican market.

Manufacturing

Central Romana’s manufacturing operations include a range of industrial activities that complement its agricultural and sugar operations. These include the production of furfural from sugarcane by-products, the manufacture of iron equipment and components for the sugar industry, and the production of construction materials and prefabricated products through PROMACO. The company also has operations associated with the La Romana Free Trade Zone and produces processed meat and dairy products under the Higueral brand. These activities contribute to Central Romana’s diversified industrial presence in the Dominican Republic.

Tourism and Real Estate

Tourism and real estate represent another major area of Central Romana’s operations in the eastern Dominican Republic. Its principal development, Casa de Campo, has evolved from a hotel project into an international resort and residential community featuring hotels, restaurants, golf courses, equestrian and sporting facilities, and more than 1,200 private residences. Through Costasur, Central Romana oversees real estate development associated with Casa de Campo. Its tourism infrastructure also includes Marina Casa de Campo, La Romana International Airport, and La Romana Port, supporting tourism, residential development, and economic activity in the region.

Services

Central Romana provides a range of services and infrastructure that support its agricultural, industrial, tourism, and real estate activities, as well as the wider La Romana community. These include electricity generation, water supply, and security services. The company generates electricity through turbines powered in part by steam produced during sugar manufacturing and operates an aqueduct supplying potable water to La Romana. Its security operations include Guardianes Costasur, which provides security for tourism and industrial facilities, and the Guardacampestre rural security department, which protects agricultural and rural areas.
