En esa época, accionistas filipinos de la South Porto Rico Sugar Company, tenían relaciones con la compañía multinacional Dupont, gran fabricante de un nuevo producto, el nylon, el cual usa el furfural como materia prima.With the success achieved in sugar production, the company decided to venture into other sectors of agricultural production and manufacturing. During that time, Philippine shareholders of the South Porto Rico Sugar Company had a relationship with the multinational company Dupont, large manufacturer of a new product, nylon, which used furfural as raw material.82
