CENTRAL ROMANA SUGAR MILL COMPLETES HARVEST AND PAYS HISTORIC BONUS TO EMPLOYEES
The company announced the payment of RD$1,075,266,330.00 in bonuses to all its employees, as part of the agreement established in the Collective Bargaining Pact with the United Workers Union.
La Romana – Central Romana Sugar Mill concluded its 2024–2025 harvest with a total sugar production of approximately 306,904 short tons, after grinding 3,212,174 short tons of sugarcane.
This year, refined sugar production exceeded 180,000 short tons, representing a 14% increase compared to the previous season, thus ensuring supply to the national market, according to a company press release.
Additionally, the company produced 21.54 million gallons of molasses, nearly 3 million gallons more than last year.
“These results were achieved thanks to the dedication and effort of all our workers, both in the fields and in the mill,” stated the company. “This, despite the challenges we’ve faced for a second consecutive season due to excessive soil moisture and the ongoing adaptation of our land to mechanized harvesting, which—due to labor shortages—has led us to increase our use of mechanical harvesters and cane loaders to nearly 60%, significantly impacting overall sugar production efficiency.”
Central Romana also announced the payment of RD$1,075,266,330.00 (one billion, seventy-five million, two hundred sixty-six thousand, three hundred thirty Dominican pesos) in bonuses to all its employees, as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Pact between the company and the United Workers Union.
This is the highest bonus amount ever paid by Central Romana in its history.
Of the total bonus amount, approximately RD$482 million were allocated to employees in agricultural areas directly involved in planting and harvesting sugarcane.
