CENTRAL ROMANA MEDICAL CENTER AND HEALING THE CHILDREN FOUNDATION CONDUCT PEDIATRIC SURGICAL OPERATIVE
La Romana, Dominican Republic. – Central Romana Medical Center carried out its annual surgical operative in collaboration with the U.S.-based foundation Healing the Children, an organization dedicated to providing free medical care to children around the world.
The health mission was led by Dr. Michael Tavill, an Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist, who, together with a team of American and Dominican medical professionals, performed multiple free pediatric surgeries at Central Romana Hospital. During the course of one week, 357 patients were evaluated, and 109 surgical procedures were successfully performed.
“We have once again carried out a completely successful medical operative in partnership with the Healing the Children Foundation, who visit us from New Jersey with a highly trained team of doctors and nurses to perform safe and efficient surgeries free of charge for children in need,” explained Dr. Isabel León, Chief of Surgery at Central Romana Medical Center.
The procedures performed included adenoid surgeries, turbinate hypertrophy treatments, myringotomies, and the placement of unilateral and bilateral tubes for otitis media, among other pediatric otolaryngology procedures.
Patients also receive free post-operative follow-up care at Central Romana Hospital.
“Coming to Central Romana Medical Center and working with their professional team has been a wonderful experience. We have received full support from Dr. José López, Hospital Director, and his entire medical staff,” said Dr. Tavill. He also highlighted the quality of the facilities and the logistical support provided by the local team: “The facilities, care, translation, and pre-operative assistance are excellent. We couldn’t ask for better partners; all of this allows us to have a smoother and more human medical experience.”
This initiative reaffirms Central Romana Medical Center’s social commitment to the well-being of the community, promoting international collaboration to expand access to specialized medical services for children and families throughout the Eastern region.
