86 FREE SURGERIES WERE PERFORMED IN THE OPERATION OF THE CENTRAL ROMANA MEDICAL CENTER.

The Central Romana Medical Center successfully carried out its usual health campaign in collaboration with the American foundation “Healing the Children,” benefiting a total of 86 boys and girls with free ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgeries.

The medical event was led by specialists Mike Tavill and Scott Fisher, accompanied by a large team of American and Dominican doctors who evaluated more than 350 people from the agricultural communities of Central Romana and the eastern region, as well as other areas of the country.

During the campaign, important procedures were performed, including adenoid surgeries, inferior turbinate hypertrophy, chronic otitis, myringotomy, and the placement of sublingual frenulum tubes. It also included evaluations under anesthesia for wax impaction removal and the removal of polyps from the ear canal.

“For over 20 years, we have continuously carried out these types of campaigns, which are accessible to residents of the various provinces in the eastern region and our agricultural communities, directly benefiting over 500 low-income individuals without any cost for the surgery or post-operative follow-up,” said Dr. José López, hospital director and Vice President of Health at Central Romana.

The medical effort was supervised by Dr. Isabel León, head of surgery at the Central Romana Medical Center, along with coordination from Dr. Alejandra Cedano. Doctors Noemi Rincón, Pedro Julio King, as well as nursing staff and paramedics from the medical center, also participated.

In addition to medical care, patients also received completely free post-operative follow-up at Central Romana Hospital in the days following the surgeries. “This ensures a healing process without setbacks, as most patients lack the resources needed for this type of treatment,” emphasized Dr. León.

Every year, the Central Romana Medical Center conducts several completely free campaigns for the population of La Romana and the eastern region. Among these, the reconstructive hand surgery campaign stands out, led for nearly two decades by renowned American doctor Michael Murphy, evaluating over a thousand people and successfully performing around 406 surgeries during that period, all at no cost to the beneficiaries.
