Central Romana Corporation donates 48 plots of land for families in El Seibo
The company also donated land for a new municipal cemetery and for the provincial Bureau of Transportation and Traffic Safety.
El Seibo – Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. donated 48 lots of land that will be destined for the construction of houses of low-income families in the province of El Seibo, located in the community of Villa Guerrero, that comprise a total area of more than 27,000 square meters.
“Today we strengthen even more our relationship with the city and the people of El Seibo, reaffirming our willingness to contribute to the development and well-being of the men and women of this province, through the social responsibility actions that are part of our corporate culture” stated the company at the donation ceremony.
The sugar company, whose operations are home-based in La Romana, reported that the agreement and planning process for the delivery of these plots began about 8 months ago, in coordination with a special commission integrated by community leaders, religious leaders, businessmen and the authorities of the local city council.
In addition, Central Romana announced the donation of another 45,000-square-meter piece of land for the establishment of a new municipal cemetery and also another 3,000-square-meter lot for the provincial Bureau of Transportation and Traffic Safety.
The event was hosted by Mr. Eduardo Martínez-Lima Gonzalvo and Mr. Leo Matos, Vice Presidents of Administration of Central Romana. Also present were the evangelical pastor Eddy Alvarez, the Catholic priest Mario Martínez, the Catholic Sister María Carballo, the businessman Alfredo Zorrilla, and the mayor Leo Francis Zorrilla, who were all part of the commission for the land donation.
Also participating were the senator Santiago Zorrilla; His Excellency Reverend Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, Bishop of La Altagracia; General Frank Félix Durán, Eastern Regional Director of the National Police, among other personalities and authorities of the region.
Over the years, Central Romana Corporation has made important contributions in the province of El Seibo, such as the donation of 500 plots of land for the creation of the residential area today called “Barrio Las Quinientas”; the donation of land for the construction of public schools and for the construction of sports facilities.
The company has also contributed land to erect the Monument to the Battle of Palo Hincado, commemorating the battle for the reconquest of the Santo Domingo colony that took place in El Seibo; and the most recent donation of the land to build the Plaza Taurina, a long-awaited dream of the Seibano people who maintain the tradition of bullfighting during their patron saint festivities.
