Central Romana handed more than RD$900MM pesos in bonuses to workers

 

La Romana. – Central Romana Corporation handed more than RD$ 900 million pesos to its workers and employees regarding bonuses after the sugar harvest of 2016-2017.

This is the largest amount the company has given throughout its history.

Out of that total, RD$ 419 million pesos correspond to agricultural workers in the sugarcane fields and the remaining amount to employees in the industrial and sugar production areas.

The company recently reported that it set a new record by producing 188,812 short tons of refined sugar this season. More than 3 million 520 thousand short tons of sugarcane were processed, for a total production of 379,724 short tons of sugar.

The company has always been in favour of improving the living conditions of their workers and employees carrying out important programs of corporate social responsibility for their well-being and that of their families, as well as the rest of the community.

The company implements programmes to promote the consumption of vegetables, fruits and meats at subsidized prices lower than those of the local market. It also sponsors and develops sports activities in the disciplines of baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball in tournaments celebrated in all of the bateys of the seven agricultural divisions, as well as in La Romana and other cities of the Eastern region.

It also maintains an educational schooling programme for the children of workers, develops own housing projects for its workers, and facilitates accommodation for employees in company-owned houses.

Central Romana also makes important investments in health, providing medical assistance in its modern hospital, the medical subcenters in sugarcane areas, and through mobile medical units that visit on a daily basis every batey in the agricultural divisions of the company.

Annually performs free medical operations both for children and adults, carry out orthopaedic reconstructive surgeries, interventions in Otorhinolaryngology cases, and cleft palate surgeries.

Apart from its achievements in the sugar industry, the company has diversified its economic investment with the construction of an international airport and a tourist dock for cruise ships. It also has made important investments in tourism with the Casa de Campo Resort and high-end real estate development with Costasur Dominicana, among other important businesses.
