Sus operaciones se remontan a principios del siglo pasado, con las primeras siembras de caña de azúcar.Desde su origen, el principal objetivo ha sido la producción de bueyes de calidad para las labores de tiro y arrimo de la caña, aunque también se decidió criar caballos para los supervisores, así como mulos de carga. Las primeras importaciones masivas de ganado se hicieron en la década de 1920. Más de 2 mil madres fueron traídas de Puerto Rico.Una raza propiaA breed of their ownAl igual que lo hizo con la caña y dado que la sabana costera de la isla es de poca lluvia, la empresa decidió desarrollar su propio ganado para que sirviera de tiro, pero que al mismo tiempo fuese gran productor de carne y resistente a la sequía. Así nació el “Romana Red”, orgullo de la empresa, raza criada y desarrollada por el Central Romana, la cual fue el resultado del cruce de ganado rojo criollo de origen andaluz, tanto el adquirido en la República Dominicana, como del importado de Puerto Rico (del mismo origen genético), que fue mezclado con ganado de razasLivestock is another activity in which Central Romana has excelled and through which it has made a notable contribution to the country. Its operations go back as far as the beginning of the past century, when they first began growing sugarcane.Since its beginning, the main objective has been to breed high quality oxen for the work related to the sugar cane harvesting, although they also decided to breed horses for the supervisors, as well as pack mules. The first massive imports of cattle took place in the 1920s. More than 2000 mothers were brought in from Puerto Rico.Just like they did with the sugarcane and given that it seldom rains in the coastal savanna of the island, the company decided to develop their own cattle, to use for agricultural work, but to also be a great producer of beef and resistant to drought. This is how Romana Red, the pride of the company, was born, a breed created and raised by Central Romana.
